Half Century Birthday Challenge!

To mark my 50th birthday, I am going to give Dalvík Ski Club a 70-metre covered magic carpet, basically a conveyor belt for people on skis! The idea is to give the youngest kids the best possible start on skis, while at the same time greatly improving the facilities for beginners and families visiting the ski area. In doing so, we can support the future development of the Ski Club and help create a stronger and more sustainable future for the ski area itself.

 

This is a fairly ambitious project and has been in the works for the past six months. The magic carpet has already arrived in Iceland, and installation will begin in early autumn.

With a project costing several tens of millions of Icelandic krónur, I have been incredibly fortunate to receive generous support from many different people and organizations.

Dalvíkurbyggð municipality, for example, has contributed ISK 10 million to the project. Eimskip, which has always been an incredible supporter of our skiing community, took care of the entire transport from Italy all the way up to Böggvisstaðafjall, no small contribution! Kollgáta Architects, with Ingó and Andrea leading the charge, have been working hard on the design and development of what promises to be a fantastic structure covering the lift. Engineer Björgvin Smári Jónsson is then going to make sure the whole thing actually fits together as intended!

 

Local contractors have also been hugely supportive. In particular, I want to mention Ingvar Óskarsson at Steypustöðin Dalvík, Ásgeir Páll at Elektro Co, and the wizards at Tréverk.

And of course, very little would ever happen at the Dalvík ski area without the hard work and determination of Hörður Finnbogason, the ski area manager, and Óskar Óskarsson, chairman of Dalvík Ski Club.
